Madikeri: Singing programme of yesteryear's film songs scheduled on Nov 24

Madikeri, Nov 23: A programme of singing old Kannada film songs is scheduled at Kaveri Kalakshetra here on Nov 24 at 6 pm.

Star singers Chetan Nayak, background singers Divya Ramachandra, Rakshita Avadhani, Karthik and upcoming artiste Niveditha will be singing at the programme.

Zilla panchayat president B A Harish, corporation president Kaveramma Somanna, deputy commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D'Souza, DSP P Rajendra Prasad, corporation vice president T S Prakash, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit president Lokesh Sagar, Karnataka Janapada parishat district unit president B G Anantashayana and others will be present.

The purpose of the programme is to reflect on the history of Kannada films.

Annual meeting of retired servicemen: The annual meeting of retired servicemen including BSF, CRPF, CISF and IPBF in the district will be held at Kelagina Gowda auditorium, Madikeri on November 25 at 10.30 am. A release by the retired servicemen's federation has asked all the members to be present and complete the work on membership fees and death fund.

District level science conference for children: A district level science conference will be held under the aegis of district department of public instruction and state science council, Coorg at A L G Crescent School on November 29 at 9.45 am.

Students will present essays prepared by them on the basis of their study. The initial ten groups who will be participating in the competitions will be representing the district at the state level children's science conference that will be held in Sudana Residential School, Puttur between December 3 and December 5.

Applications invited for Kittur Rani Chennamma award:
Kittur Rani Chennamma award is being presented to people or organizations which have rendered selfless service for a minimum of five years in the area of women's development.
Applications from women who have shown courage while saving the lives and property of others may be submitted to the office of deputy director, department of women and children's development at Madikeri before December 10.

First anniversary of Nalike Seva Samithi:The first anniversary of Chembu grama Anyala Ajila alias Nalike Seva Samithi was held recently. President of the Sangha, K K Balakrishna presided over the programme. A three days training was held by the department of Kannada and Culture on different art forms. Department assistant director Kullayya and technical officer Manjunath and Pre University College teacher Kumar were the resource persons. Special achievers were felicitated in the concluding ceremony. Children and young boys and girls presented a cultural programme. Arun C proposed the Vote of thanks. A B Madhava welcomed everyone.

Directions to distribute ration within stipulated time period:
There have been complaints from ration card holders that fair price shops do not open their shops during the time specified by the government and are harassing the card holders. The department of food and civil supplies has ordered to keep the ration shops open from 8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm from the 1st till the 10th of every month and distribute ration. They may keep the shops open from 8 am to 12 pm and 4 to 8 pm on other days. The officials have warned of strict action if the shops fail to adhere to the timings.

Sports competitions for the physically challenged:
The department of women and children's development and infant planning as part of world physically challenged day on November 29, will be holding sports competitions at Gandhi maidan at 10 am. Development project officer has asked the physically challenged to participate in it.

Online applications invited:
As the state government has permitted to newly open paramedical courses in the year, eligible candidates are requested to submit applications to fill the seats in the government quota. Further details are available on www.pmbkarnataka.org.

Cattle Rally (Go Yathre) in Coorg district:
The rally of cows with ten raths will pass by Virajpete on November 23 and Madikeri on November 24 as part of Mangala Go Yathre scheduled in seven districts in the state.
Information on protecting several breeds of cows will be made available at the rallies.
The rallies will be held in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Goa, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for 80 days to create awareness on cattle.
