Leopard beaten to death near Gurugram

Gurugram, Nov 24 (IANS): A nearly two-year-old leopard was beaten to death on Thursday by villagers near Gurugram, an official said.

The young leopard was killed after allegedly injuring at least six persons in Mundawar village, located in the foothills of Aravali mountain range, near Sohna, some 26 km from Gurugram city.

The leopard entered the village on Thursday morning and was beaten to death by the villagers.

Out of six injured persons, four were admitted to Sohna civil hospital.

Villagers informed the forest department officials but they failed to reach the spot on time.

Angry over the poor response from the forest department, people blocked traffic by keeping the body of the leopard on the Sohna-Ballabgarh road.

People told police that the leopard was spotted in the region on several occasions over the last one year. The information was conveyed to forest officials but they remained inactive.

The body of the leopard has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorised forest officials (wildlife) were not available for comment despite efforts.
