40 Iranian pilgrims die in Iraq suicide bombing


Tehran, Nov 25 (IANS): At least 40 Iranian pilgrims were killed and 20 injured in a suicide bombing in Babil province of Iraq, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

According to Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi, the attack on Thursday killed around 80 Shia pilgrims and injured 31 others.

The pilgrims were returning home after observing a Shia ritual of Arbaeen in the holy city of Karbala, some 110 km south of Baghdad, Xinhua news agency reported.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi condemned the terrorist attack.
