Demonetisation not in public interest, says Akhilesh

Lucknow, Nov 28 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over demonetisation, saying the decision had caused great inconvenience to all sections of the society.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a private event in Jaunpur, he said be it the working class, poor, students, farmers, woman, middle-class and the rich, all were facing huge problems.

"The Modi government has snatched the purse of women," he added while dismissing the Union government's claims of checking fake currency by this decision. "All talks by the Modi government to check graft and take on black money are a sham," he said.

"The decision to demonetise Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes was taken without any preparation and is not in public interest," he added.

Akhilesh Yadav, however, refused to respond to pointed queries on his party's MP Amar Singh openly siding with Modi over demonetisation.
