Surat, Jan 17: Three persons have set ablaze a 35-year-old man here, who allegedly tried to stop them from eve-teasing a widow, leading to his death, police said.
Keshavprasad Vishwakarma, who had suffered 75 per cent burns, succumbed at the New Civil Hospital where he was under treatment since Monday, they said.
The incident occurred in Pandesara area on Monday when three friends, incensed with Vishwakarma for stopping them from eve-teasing the woman living in his neighbourhood, pushed him inside his house and set him on fire.
The victim broke open the door and ran towards the police station. He collapsed there and was rushed to the hospital where he died, they said.
The police have registered a case against the accused, who are absconding.
One of the accused, Prabhu Gaur, was the room partner of the victim, who was employed as an operator in a mill, the sources added.
