Panaji,Dec 1: The Congress party in Goa today took a dig at state government’s move to go cashless by December 30 by demanding that government should first provide enough currency in the banks before opting for such measures.
“The move is heartless, inconvenient and anti-people. Where do we have the time and infrastructure to go cashless, are the poor fisher women, vegetable vendors, labourers etc sitting on the street corner going to accept a card payment?” Congress Goa Chief Luizinho Faleiro said addressing workers during party’s Padayatra in Calangute constituency today.
“My question to BJP is, do all banks in Goa have adequate money to dispense cash that you want to go cashless? Are all the businesses in Goa card enabled that in thirty days time you can go cashless? The BJP government has been responsible for the deaths of over 80 Indians through its unthoughtful and fascist moves across the country,” he said.
Goa Pradesh Congress has cautioned the people of Goa to be aware of moves to curb their financial freedom by a government that has taken care of all its party cadres and crony capitalists while it has abandoned them in the face of a messed up demonetization exercise.
State government has set up a deadline of December 30 this year to make the coastal state a cashless society, a concept mooted by prime minister Narendra Modi.
