Opposition exposed in Rajya Sabha: Javadekar

New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS): Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said the opposition in the Rajya Sabha has been exposed that it is running away from a discussion on demonetisation.

"The opposition has been exposed... they don't have a logic or issue now. They are just adamant or perhaps waiting for an order from somewhere," Javadekar, a Rajya Sabha MP, told reporters at Parliament House here.

Javadekar said he hoped "better sense will prevail and the debate in the upper house resumes."

The minister's remarks came after the Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice within half an hour on Thursday despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence.

The opposition has been demanding Modi's presence in the upper house for a debate on the November 8 demonetisation.

"The debate has started in the house; the Prime Minister will intervene (when necessary), but they (opposition members) are still running away from it. The house and the nation saw this today (Thursday)," he added.

"Discussion is the way in a democracy... they just want to run away from discussion. This shows their bankruptcy," the HRD Minister said.

On the hacking of Rahul Gandhi's Twitter handle on Wednesday and posting of expletives therein, Javadekar said such incidents do not reflect poorly on the 'Digital India' initiative of the Modi government.

Laws are in place to provide cyber security in the country and this security will be provided to all, he said.
