Mangaluru, Dec 8: The Mangaluru police commissioner has ordered suspension of a police constable of Panambur police station for alleged sexual harassment of a woman in Kasaba Bengre.
The constable under suspension is Vinay Kumar.
Panambur police constable Rashid who had come to the house of the woman a few days ago, on the pretext of investigation into some case, had asked the mobile number of the woman. Later, a constable named Vinay Kumar allegedly began calling up the woman on the mobile and coaxing her to have sex with him. As the harassment from Vinay Kumar increased, she brought the matter to the notice of DYFI Bengre local committee leader.
DYFI workers who swung into action got the conversation between the constable and the woman recorded and presented it before the Mangaluru police commissioner with the help of district DYFI leaders.
They explained the case to police commissioner Chandra Sekhar and urged him to provide justice to the woman. The police commissioner who responded promptly got an FIR registered in the women's police station on the basis of the recorded conversation and ordered for Vinay Kumar's suspension from duty.
