Apex court decision on Cauvery award a victory for Jayalalithaa: TN

Chennai, Dec 10 (IANS) : The Tamil Nadu government on Friday said the Supreme Court's decision to uphold maintainability of appeals filed by various states against the Cauvery tribunal award is a victory for late Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa.

On Friday, the apex court upheld the maintainability of appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against the award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) given in 2007 on sharing of Cauvery river water.

According to the Tamil Nadu government statement, the state argued strongly that the apex court has power to hear the appeals filed by the states against the CWDT award.

On the other hand the central government had argued that the appeals are not apex court's jurisdiction.

The apex court directed Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu every day.

Referring to the development, the Tamil Nadu government said it is a victory for the late Jayalalithaa's untiring efforts in the Cauvery issue.

Offcourse its a victory for JL and TN. She was a good visionary leader , high political intelect and lead Cauvery JL was very proactive, sent her delegation to Delhi couple times .Invited PM and his team to access the situation and ensure the SC was in her favor. Siddu boycotted the PM and went after 'earthquake Gandhi'. Whilst Siddu was sleeping, busy with Bhagyas , Jayanthis, Controversies & appeasement. He woke up only in the last minute when it was too late. Even Baazigars Urulu Seve went in vain. I hope Cong is replaced soon in the state.
