Husband arrested in law student murder case


Kolkata, Dec 10 (IANS): The estranged husband of law student Moumita Biswas, who was shot dead on Thursday night in Kalyani, has been arrested allegedly for her murder, police said on Saturday.

"Nikhil Sen, the estranged husband of Moumita, was detained from his Titagarh residence for interrogation on Friday. He was arrested on Saturday morning after accepting the charges of murder," Nadim Akthar, Inspector of Kalyani Police station, said.

"Sen accused his wife of having multiple extra-marital affairs and demanding money on regular intervals as the reason of murder," the officer said.

Moumita Biswas, a student of Kalyani Law College, was shot in the head near Kalyani Express Highway on Thursday night. She was separated from her husband for the last six months.

The accused has been arrested under Section 302 of The Indian Penal Code.

"The accused was produced in the Kalyani court on Saturday where he was remanded in six days of police custody," the officer added.
