Mangalore, Jan 22: A memorandum has been submitted to the Lakshadweep Union Territory administrative authorities to establish shipping service between the city and Lakshadweep, informed Mangalore-Lakshadweep Conference (MLC) convener here on Monday January 21.
Addressing media persons here MLC convener E P Attakoya Thangal said that the Lakshadweep islanders have a close relationship with the city. Hence, he opined that a speedy transportation between the two places is the need of the hour for both places. He also pointed out that the city has all major facilities including higher education institutional institutions, international airport and rail connectivity.
A suggestion was also made by Thangal for setting up of a communication tower at old port in Bunder to help the entire shipping service. An administration office unit and guest house should be developed in the city for the people of Lakshadweep, he suggested further.
Present at the press conference were convener M K Jamaluddeen Faizi and MLC chairman U Sayyad Shaik Koya Thangal among others.
