India, Indonesia sign three agreements


New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS): India and Indonesia on Monday signed three agreements following delegation-level talks here headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

"Agreements that advance a strategic partnership. PM @narendramodi & Prez @jokowi witness exchange of agreements in three different fields," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on cooperation in the area of youth and sports.

Another MoU was signed on cooperation in the area of standardisation.

A joint communique was also signed on voluntary international cooperation to combat illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing and to promote sustainable fisheries governance.

Earlier in the day, Widodo, who assumed the presidency of Indonesia in October 2014, was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

He is being accompanied by his wife Iriana Joko Widodo, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Trade, Industry, Investment, and Health and and a very high-level business delegation which includes the President of Kadin, the premier business chamber of Indonesia.

This is the first presidential visit from Indonesia to India in nearly six years since the visit of then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in January 2011.
