Bengaluru, Dec 18 (DHNS): A 26-year-old advocate was stabbed to death by two men in full public view in Mahalakshmi Layout on Saturday evening.
The deceased is Jyothi, a native of Kanakapura. She worked in the office of a senior lawyer in Mahalakshmi Layout. Jyothi was residing in a paying guest accommodation near ESI hospital in Rajajinagar.
Around 6.45 pm, she alighted from a BMTC bus and was walking towards the office. Two men accosted her, stabbed her repeatedly, slashed her throat and fled, said the police.
Jyothi raised an alarm, collapsed and was bleeding profusely. A few people shifted her to a nearby private hospital where she died. Passersby chased and nabbed one of the assailants - Shivaramu - while another man fled. They alerted the Mahalakshmi Layout police, who rushed to the spot and arrested the man, police said.
“It is suspected that the assailants were known to Jyothi. Shivaramu is being questioned and the actual reason for the murder will be known only after investigation,” said a senior police officer.
“The murder took place in a busy area where there is heavy movement of people. Eyewitnesses said that the two men, who may be aged 28 to 30 years, were waiting for the girl. As soon as they saw her alighting from the bus, they approached her. But she ignored them and moved away. They followed her and had a heated argument with her. The duo then stabbed her and slit her throat with knives. Her friends and family members are also being questioned,” the officer said.
