Bengaluru: Thief gunned down by security guard at under-construction site

Bengaluru, Dec 24: In an incident which occurred in the wee hours of Friday, December 23 in the city, a man who was allegedly trying to steal things from an under-construction site was fired at by the security guard. The intruder got killed as a result.

The site in question belongs to Jawarayi Gowda, president of Yashwantpur unit of JD(S). A security guard belonging to a private agency had been hired to guard the site located near the peripheral road near BDA Layout at Nagarbhavi second stage in the city.

The person who lost his life has been identified as Bettaiah (25). The policemen took into custody Mohan Kumar, security staff concerned. Bettiah died on the spot due to firing. The policemen who interrogated the guard said that the accused who had entered the site for stealing things had tried to attack the security guard when the guard challenged him. The security guard fired at the thief as an act of self-defence, they stated.

A case relating to the incident was filed in Kamakshipalya police station here. Police officials are investigating the incident.
