Mangaluru, Dec 25: Police personnel of the city crime branch here succeeded in taking into custody four notorious thieves involved with stealing of two-wheelers, and taking into possession seven two-wheeler from them.

The identities of the accused have been given as Afreem Shiyad (20) from Kadri Shivbagh in the city, Hamza (19) f rom Katipalla second block. Balasubrahmanya (37) resident of Chettiyar Comound at T T Road in the city and Karthik Suvarna (20), who hails from Volachil Padavu in Arkula. The total value of items seized including five cellphones has been put at Rs 4.67 lac.

The policemen said that Hamza, Balasubrahmanya, and Afreem had earlier too been arrested for similar crimes. Afreem had been arrested in 2015 for his involvement with about 20 bike and chain theft cases and had secured bail about ten months back. He returned to his old ways and stole motor bikes again, they added.

Hamza, who was involved with chain snatching case within Bantwal rural station limits, had evaded arrest till ow. He also faces a case of theft from a mobile shop in Badiyadka police station and two motor bike thefts in Suratkal police station. He had secured bail two weeks back.

Another accused, Balasubrahmanya, has been facing six house theft cases registered in Bajpe, Kadri, Bantwal town, and Bunder police stations. The arrested accused and assets seized from their possession have been handed over to Bunder police station officials for further action.

City crime branch inspector, Sunil Y Nayak, police sub-inspector, ShyamSundar and other personnel had participated in the arrest operation.
