Mangalore, Jan 28: The regional conference of the city and Udupi units of Vijaya Bank Employees' Association (VBEA) was held here on Sunday January 27.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation pointed out that the role of trade unions has changed under the new economic order.
According to him trade conflicts are a common phenomenon in the course of development of any nation. In this context Dr Alva opined, "Where there is conflict, there is progress. Hence, it is necessary for the trade unions to engage in positive conflicts that result in progress," he stated giving a unique point of view.
Particularly with regard to the employee-management relations, Dr Alva said it is only with the active support of the employees that an organization can be fortified and strengthened. Here the role of trade unions is very crucial as they can strive to facilitate cordial relationship between the management and the employees.
Reminiscing about his association with Vijaya Bank, he declared solemnly that among the several banks in the district, Vijaya Bank has emerged as a people's bank. "Today, the bank has developed into a global set-up with branches even in remote areas like north eastern states," he declared.
Speaking on the occasion P Prakashchandra Shetty, Vijaya Bank's regional manager exhorted the employees to equip themselves to face the challenges in the market.
