Demonetisation decision taken hurriedly: Amartya Sen

Santiniketan (WB), Dec 30 (PTI): Nobel laureate Amartya Sen today said he felt the demonetisation decision was taken hurriedly without thinking about its consequence.

"I don't think that this (demonetisation) decision was taken after considering all sides. It was taken hurriedly without thinking of consequences," he told mediapersons here.
"So far economics is concerned I find no reasoning behind this decision. It will have adverse effect," Sen said.

The Nobel laureate, who chairs Pratichi Trust, which works in the areas of health and education with special emphasis on gender equality, said implementation of midday meal project is not up to the mark in West Bengal.

"This project is very successful in Tamil Nadu, partly in Uttar Pradesh and other states. But in West Bengal the performance is average," he said after attending a programme of the trust here.

Awards are not the ultimate. Love and recognition by poor mass is the testimony of one's life achievement. Some one had impaired the future of India then with an eye on noble peace prize! People of India still looking for an answer "Why did they do that " ?

In a way Mr Sen is incorrect. Whoever has implemented this Demo their hidden agenda has been fulfilled, wilful defaulters are happy, banks are again in a position to attract more defaulters. Major chunk of the black money still remains unscathed at overseas tax havens. If this wasn't implemented hurriedly all of this wouldn't have been achieved, so many lakhs of crores from public wouldn't have been channeled into banks. Restrictions on withdrawals and digitalization are further attempts to retain that money in the banks. In that sense, the purpotrators if this scheme have been 100% successful, congratulations!

The Demonetization decision was more political then economics. I was to nullify the huge amount of cash stacked by other parties especially in UP to give advantage to the ruling party. We all have to suffer for the "party war".

Two great Gujarathi Economists, the former CM and Home Minister of Gujarat, Modi/Amith Shaw won't care for any other Nobel Prize winners in Economics. Why Varun Gandhi who is an Economics Graduate from the London School of Economics is not talking about the wonder working demonetization?

Only Venkiah Naidu-Arun Jaitly-the President-Smiriti Irani-Home Minister Ranjith Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman, and at times Hema Malini are permitted to talk about this economical surgical strike upon India. Nirmala Sitharaman said that Rahul Gandhi doesn't know what is demonetization, she is an authority on that subject but Indian export is terribly declining.
