Kundapur, Dec 31: It was a celebration of agriculture as the colourful and vibrant 'Krishi Utsava 2016' began on a high note at Sandeepan English Medium School here on Friday December 30.
The event has been jointly organized by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Krishi Utsava organizing committee, R K Sanjiva Rao birth anniversary commemoration committee, Sandeepan English Medium School and Pragathibandu self-help group union.
Byndoor MLA K Gopal Poojary who inaugurated the programme said that the government has introduced several facilities for farming. "The government has enabled farmers to obtain harvesting machines, tillers, tractors and other machines for their use on hire. Substantial growth in agriculture is possible if farmers make optimum use of the facilities," he said.
MLA Kota Srinivas Poojary who inaugurated the cattle exhibition said that the agriculture department and the government should conduct a survey of barren agricultural land in taluks, districts and state. "Barren land should be revived so that agriculture may get a fillip. Local farmers should engage in qualitative and organic farming while making use of the latest technology," he said.

Textile stalls, book stalls, rural handicrafts exhibition, exhibition of fruits, replicas of farmers engaging in farming and sculptures and crafts reflecting the life in rural area are highlights of the Utsava. Exhibition of different breeds of cattle draw attention of the visitors.
