Opposition slams PM's 'budget' speech on New Year eve

New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): The opposition on Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over what appeared like a "budget speech" on the New Year eve but didn't reveal the amount of black money collected after the government's demonetisation drive that caused unprecedented currency crunch in the country.

The Congress hit out at Modi and said that the 45-minute speech was "much ado about nothing".

"No deadline, only headline, this has become the move, image and character of the Prime Minister," said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, adding the party again urged him to withdraw the restrictions imposed on withdrawals post demonetisation.

The Congress leader said the schemes announced by the Prime Minister in his pre-recorded speech were like repackaging of the programmes launched by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

"He always talks about the poor, but makes policies for the 50 industrialist families of the country," Surjewala said.

Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a strident critic of Modi, called it a "budget speech".

"The PM deviated from actual agenda of black money and demonetisation. He just took over post of Finance Minister and made pre-budget speech. So the Finance Minister (Arun Jaitley) was missing from this advance budget speech by the Prime Minister.

"Modi babu, empty vessels make the most noise," Banerjee said in a series of tweets.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Prime Minister had "betrayed the nation" but not revealing how much of the targeted black money had returned to the banking system.

"Not a single penny of black money has been recovered. There has been no reduction in corruption level. Modiji has lost all credibility," Kejriwal tweeted.

The AAP leader added that the nation patiently listened to Modi's "boring speech" in a hope that he would announce when "we'll be able to withdraw our money without any restrictions".

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad questioned if Modi could seek sacrifices from his "capitalist friends".

"Tain Tain Fiss! The people of the country will again stand in queue from Monday. Modi speech was emotionless, ineffective, boredom and a pre- budget speech which was crawling on the knees," the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief said in a tweet.

"If you have courage, ask your capitalist friends to make a sacrifice" for the nation.

The RJD Chief added: "Why didn't Modiji say how much loss did the economy suffer, how would this loss be fulfilled, what was the fall in FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) and how much was spent on printing new notes."

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Mohammed Salim said the Prime Minister was "unrepentant and ignorant on people's sufferings".

"People sacrificed, waited and disappointed. No substance in speech, no apologies for 100 deaths, no information on what all this yielded," Salim tweeted.

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja told IANS that Modi "failed" to tell the nation what the government achieved after demonetisation.

Indians will start 'deModitisation', end demonetisation in 2017: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deviating from the actual agenda of black money and asserted Indians will resolve to "deModitise" the nation.

"End of Demonetization & Start of DeModitization. The year 2017 will mark the year of Demoditization. This will be the New Year Resolution of all 125 crore people of this great country," Banerjee tweeted.

The Trinamool Congress supremo demanded the figures on recovery of black money.

"Where are the figures of #DeMonetisation? How much of black money recovered? What did the nation gain after 50days of excruciating pain?" she added.

"PM deviated from actual agenda of black money & #DeMonetisation PM just took over post of Finance Minister and made pre- Budget speech. So the FM was missing from this advance Budget Speech made by PM. Modi babu, empty vessels make the most noise," the Bengal Chief Minister said.

In a Facebook post, she said: "PM who runs nation in the name of Suddhikaran just underwent Buddhiharan. Promises broken. Promises derailed. People are not beggars. He has snatched common man's financial rights."

"Financial Emergency continues in the name of black money cleanup. Money not available in banks. Still no concrete solutions to problems. In the name of addressing the nation, Modi Babu is serving his selfish personal agenda," she said.

Banerjee added, "Heartless, baseless speech. Forgot to even pay respects to 112 citizens who died in queues. Saying Nation Address and doing political vendetta."

Due to Demonetization, corruption increased and not affect on black money. The PM of the country gave an opportunity to change the black money by leaving 50% to the government, whereas the bank manager gave them the opportunity of giving 15 to 25% for changing the old notes into new.
The government did not get any benefit whereas the Bank Managers became millionaires. This is the fact otherwise, how come people are caught with huge new notes, in spite of limits for withdrawal.

Opposition is truly jealous of Modi because they can see that with good & positive actions he is taking the country forward in the right directions which is also cementing his position & making him very popular with the masses. Sulking they certainly are for having missed the boat whilst taking no actions to prevent corruption and now are finding no way whatsoever of returning to power for many many years to come.

Honest people of our country are always honest and the dishonest will remain dishonest always no matter whatever law comes. However this demonetization has opened more doors for corruption. Only the achievement of this move is, money credited into bank accounts. It won't remain there when withdrawal limits normalizes.

Modi if you are really fighting against corruption show proof of Any forceful conversion proved by court, you don't do business with beef as cow is sacred to you, allegations against opposition as rhetoric which doesn't stand valid in court of law, any surgical strikes conducted, what is the total black money collected etc, etc. You think people are fools just tolerating your fake Bhashans. Nothing has changed in fact it's worse than before with added emergency like situation.
