Doha, Jan 2: Displaying all-round cricketing skills, QVC defeated CDC, the sponsor team by 8 wickets in the inaugural match of the 28th CDC Cricket Tournament 2017 at West Bay Cricket Complex.
Winning the toss, QVC invited CDC to bat first. CDC's batsmen could not get the runs flowing in the hot and humid weather. CDC lost their opener Haris caught by Jamil off Sultan for 9 runs in the fifth over with the score standing at 16 runs. Prakash and Ashraf with 21 and 26 runs respectively tried to propel the score. CDC, losing wickets at regular intervals managed to end up with 124 runs in 20 overs. Fowzan with 15 runs was the only other batsman to reach double figures.
While Kazi bagged 3 wickets for 14 runs, Sanjay pocketed 3 wickets for 9 runs for QVC. Jamil, Sultan and Zahir bagged a wicket each.
QVC in reply had a great start with a left-right hand combination of Rifas and Sultan. Rifas and Sultan scored 22 and 15 runs respectively playing 12 balls each and retired thereafter. Liyaqat with 12 runs, Bangeera with 17 runs and Zahir with 20 runs lead QVC to victory in the 16th over.
Fowzan got two wickets for 5 runs and Fazlan bagged one wicket for 17 runs for CDC. Sanjay of QVC was adjuged Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
Earlier, Sanjiv Jain – Business Development Manager of CDC inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Adil from Houston/USA, Irfan Parkar from New Zealand, Qatar veterans cricket officials, players and match officials.
In the other matches, LAMA XII defeated WELLON CC by 6 wickets and QALCO defeated Al Sanabil by 125 runs.

Wellon CC 109 all out in 18.5 overs (Raja 25, Sanjaya 21, Inshad 2/3, Arshad 2/5) lost to LAMA XII 112/5 in 15.5 overs (Milhan 50 runs with five 6’s and two 4’s.) Man of the match – Milhan of Lama XII.
