Udupi, Jan 3: A car occupied by drunken students hit a scooter at Uppoor K G Road near here on the night of Monday January 2 and the scooter rider died on the spot.
Appu Chala Bangera (57) from Ammunje is the person deceased.
Appu Bangera, who owned D R Bakery at Kolalgiri, was returning home after closing his business. When the car hit him, the scooter was thrown away and as a consequence Appu breathed his last.
The car was driven by a student and occupied by another three students. All of them were said to be drunk. The car also overturned, but the students came out safe.
The onlookers who found the liquor bottles in the car had arguments with the students. But the students behaved rudely with them under the influence of alcohol.
The scooter was damaged beyond recognition.
All the students were from Manipal.
