Bengaluru, Jan 3: Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar informed on Monday January 2 that Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police will investigate the remarks allegedly made by Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel of ‘setting fire to DK district if the killers of Karthik Raj were not found within ten days.’
Nalin had made the statement on Sunday in Konaje near Mangaluru. He was referring to the murder of Karthik Raj, son of former Mangaluru taluk panchayat president Umesh Ganiga, who died on October 23, 2016 after he was attacked by unknown assailants a day earlier.
Nalin’s remarks had attracted widespread criticism and protests. Congress had also filed a police complaint at Konaje police station regarding the issue.

“Nalin should not have spoken like that as Member of Parliament. Even a police complaint stands registered against him. Does his statement amount to breaking of law? Does it amount to disruption of law and order? These are the questions raised now and those will be answered after the investigation is over.” Dr Parameshwar said.
“There was no need for Nalin to react like that for a murder case. He could have spoken to the police chief, myself or even chief minister if he wanted any report on the progress of the case. What does he mean when he says he is going to set the district on fire?” he questioned.
“Those who are in politics should know how to exercise patience. Communal harmony should always be maintained. No public representative should try to play with law and order.” Dr Parameshwar opined.
