80% of cancelled ticket refunds processed: Southern Railway


Chennai, Jan 5 (IANS): The Southern Railway on Wednesday said 80 per cent of the cancelled ticket refund claims have been processed and the amount would be credited to the passenger's bank account electronically.

In a statement issued herem Southern Railway said it had issued ticket deposit receipts (TDR) in lieu of cash refund to passengers against cancelled counter tickets, in order to tide over cash crunch due to demonetisation of 500/1,000 rupee notes effective from November 8, 2016.

As per the Railway Board's directive, refunds for cancelled counter tickets are to be made to the concerned passenger's bank account electronically.

According to Southern Railway, till date about 3,500 refund claims on counter tickets against which TDRs have been issued at the stations has been received.

A special cell has processed 80 per cent of the claims and arrangements had been made to credit the passenger's bank account electronically.

The remaining refund cases are kept pending for want of details from the passengers such as, original passenger's foil of TDR, Bank Account details and PAN Card details.
