This Himachal singing star wants to be a Lata Mangeshkar

Shimla, Jan 9 (IANS): People are singing praises for the songs of this girl from a nondescript village in Himachal Pradesh.

Confined to the boundaries of her home and school earlier, the voice of the Class 12 girl was heard on laptops and mobiles across the world ever since her teacher floated her album on social networking sites.

"I am getting enormous adulation from the public for my songs that my teacher uploaded on the YouTube, Twitter and Facebook sites," Nivendu Soni, a student of Government Senior Secondary School in Dada Siba village in Kangra district, told IANS on Monday.

The youngest among the three sisters, born to a marginal farmer of Jambal village in Dehra tehsil, Soni believes no dream was too big, no challenge too great.

"I am looking for a platform to showcase my talent. For honing my talent, I want to join a singing academy, too. For this I need financial assistance too," a beaming Nivendu said.

"I have to achieve that," she said.

Since her childhood, Soni has been listening to songs on a radio, singing along and practicing at her home.

Two of her songs 'Tujhse naaraz nahi jindgi hairaan hoon main' of film "Masoom" and 'Main tenu samjhawan ki' from film "Virsa" were getting the maximum likes.

"For me, Lata Mangeshkar is my idol and her contribution to the film industry is an inspiration for singers like me," Soni said. "I want to be like Lata Mangeshkar."

Soni, whose two elder sisters were studying law and business administration, was juggling classes with agricultural work along with her parents to earn a living for the family.

One thing she did not lack was resolve. "I am determined to become a singer one day," she said.

Soni's Physics teacher Surjeet Thakur, who recorded her songs on his mobile phone and later uploaded them on social networking sites, said she's talented and looking for a platform to showcase the talent.

"Her parents are uneducated and illiterate. So, I am assisting her to get her enrolled in a singing academy for professional voice training," he said.

In December 2016, Soni registered herself for a talent hunt show 'Rising Star' for Colors television.
