Bengaluru, Jan 9: Karnataka’s Water Resources Minister M B Patil has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision rejecting the neighbouring Telangana State’s demand seeking redistribution of Krishna water among all the four riparian state.

The Krishna tribunal had already adjudicated by the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-II among the four riparian States.

The minister said that the decision of the Apex court had vindicated Karnataka’s stand, opposing any move to consider the plea of the Telangana state to re-look into the already adjudicated matter by the KWDT-II.

It may be recalled that the Telangana had approached the Supreme Court when its plea to re-look the final order had been rejected by the Tribunal recently.

The neighbouring state had filed a litigation before the Justice Brijesh Kumar headed, KWDT-II and pleaded that Section 89 of the AP Reorganisation Act meant redistribution of Krishna water among all the four riparian states including the newly carved Telangana State.

While both Karnataka and the Maharashtra had opposed the petition of the Telangana, the Union government had also opined on the same line and submitted an affidavit before the Tribunal earlier.
