Bengaluru: Karnataka Sahitya Academy picks five for honorary awards

Bengaluru, Jan 11: Karnataka Sahitya Academy has announced honorary awards pertaining to the year 2016 for five persons with significant contributions to Kannada literary field. The names were announced by president of the academy, Prof Malati Pattanashetti, at a press conference held here on Tuesday January 10.

Dr Nagesh Hegde (science literature), Dr H S Srimati and Prof O L Nagabhushan (critics), Basavaraju Kukkarahalli (short story), and Dr Balasaheb Lokapur (novelist) have been chosen for the above prestigious awards. Prof Pattanashetti said that the awards carry cash component of Rs 50,000 and citation.

In the meanwhile, book awards were also announced to various persons under 16 different categories. These awards carry Rs 25,000 cash and citation, she added. In addition, people have also been picked for seven endowment prizes, she added.
