30 killed in yellow fever outbreak in Brazil


Brasilia, Jan 13 (IANS): At least 30 people died in Brazil over the past week due to yellow fever, while the total number of suspected cases rose to 110, health authorities have confirmed.

According to the state's Secretariat of Health, the deaths occurred in the state of Minas Germ, Xinhua news agency reported.

The outbreak worsened as the number of cases spiked from 48 to 110 in just seven days.

Yellow fever is an acute viral disease which can kill a sufferer in less than a week if not treated timely. It is mainly transmitted by the bite of an infected female mosquito.

Yellow fever is also commonly found in monkeys.
