Karkala, Jan 13: Police personnel and Bajrang Dal activists raided a thicket near Tellar Bangwadi here on Thursday January 12. However, the accused succeeded in fleeing from the spot along with their equipment just before the raid. In addition to huge quantity of beef, bones were found to have been scattered there.
The right-wing organizations had expressed suspicion about an illegal slaughterhouse operating in the said thicket since sometime. But they had failed to get any evidence.
On Thursday, as soon as they were alerted about beef being prepared there, the Bajrang Dal activists informed the police and went there. They found over a quintal of beef and a weighing scale at the spot in addition to bones.
The miscreants had fled along with their tools, sensing the raid.
As per information, this place is being used for sheep trading, and that along with mutton, beef was also being prepared and sold. There were allegations that in some shops in the city, beef was mixed with mutton when selling. The scene at the thicket seemed to support the notion that illegal slaughterhouse was operating here since long.
