I am being framed, says arrested Bengal BJP leader

Kolkata, Jan 16 (IANS): BJP West Bengal Vice President Jayprakash Majumdar on Monday said he had been arrested on fabricated charges.

"I am being framed. This is an action against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). But the BJP's progress in the state can't be thwarted through such actions," Majumdar said while being taken for a medical check up at Bidhannagar Municipal Hospital.

"The complainant made false allegations against me and also used a false identity. I think he was forced to lodge the complaint," Majumdar added.

The BJP leader was sent to three days of police custody on Sunday, a day after his arrest for allegedly taking money from School Service Commission (SSC) candidates on the pretext of getting them jobs.

He was arrested after seven hours of questioning following a complaint by Arup Ratan Roy that Majumdar took Rs 7.20 lakh in two tranches promising to get jobs for the SSC candidates by moving the Supreme Court.
