Bantwal, Feb 10: The rural police of taluk have filed cases against 20 persons who were accused of attacking the policemen at Bambila, near Vogga on Friday, February 8 night.
A group of about 25 persons attacked the police when they were taking the tiger skin accused in their automobile. During the scuffle, one of the accused managed to escape out of the three accused who were accompanied by the police. Meanwhile, two policemen of District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB) had sustained injuries; owing to miscreants attack and were later admitted to Wen Lock Hospital, in Mangalore. Now, they have recovered and joined the normal duties, sources informed.
The policemen fired at the miscreants in self defence during the incident. An Omni r was damaged in this incident.
The arrested have been identified as Karim, resident of Haleyangady and Mohammed Saji, resident of Kasargod. A Santro car and two tiger skins have been seized in the earlier operation. Police have initiated probe to arrest the prime accused Iqbal, resident of Beltangady.
Police sources stated that it was an attempt by the associates of tiger-skin dealer to save the accused thereby thwart revealing the information on kingpin to police.
