Madikeri: Accidents claim two lives in Kodagu district

Madikeri, Jan 23: A bus of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) got involved in a collision with a truck at Ambatti road bend on Virajpet-Gonikoppal road on the night of Saturday January 21. In this head-on collision, conductor of the bus, identified as Kale Patel (40), who hailed from Vijayapura district, lost his life.

The bus was moving towards Virajpet from Gundlupet, when a truck moving towards Mysuru from Virajpet with a load of outer shells of coffee beans coming from opposite direction collided with it.

While Kale Patel, who has suffered grievous injuries, died on the way to a hospital here, driver of the bus, Shashidhar (27), who suffered fracture of the leg, stands admitted into the district government hospital here for treatment. The driver of the truck absconded after the accident. A case about the accident was registered in Virajpet rural police station, and the body was transported to Vijayapura.

In another case, a coffee planter, Sullimada Uthaiah (65), who was driving a Maruti van died due to chest and head injuries he suffered when his van toppled at Basagur near Gonikoppal. He died on the spot. He was preparing for puja fixed for Saturday in connection with the marriage of his daughter, Poovamma, scheduled to be held on Sunday, when this tragedy occurred. Uthaiah's funeral was held on Saturday evening, and his daughter's marriage was performed in a simple way on Sunday amid grieving close ones and relatives.
