Mangalore, Feb 12: A delegation comprising aggrieved producers of Kannada film industry will meet the governor on Tuesday, February 12 in order to submit a memorandum urging the removal of Girish Kasaravalli from chairmanship of the committee that chooses films for subsidy, informed P Dhanraj, producer of the Tulu movie Koti Chennayya.
He was addressing media persons here at a press conference on Monday, February 11.
'The delegation will also make an appeal to the governor to set up a new committee to select films for subsidy,' he said. When enquired on the future course of action in case talks with the governor fail, the producer said that the delegation will go on a hunger strike.
As per the norms, on the whole 32 movies should be accorded subsidy including two regional films. But the committee headed by the director has not adhered to the norms in this regard. Ironically a box office Kannada hit 'Jote Joteyali' which is a remake has been accorded subsidy, he added.
Moreover, Kasaravalli had no moral right to head the committee as his actor daughter, Ananya Kasaravalli has acted in two of the films which were accorded the subsidy, he argued.
Kasaravalli manipulated the committee without consulting other committee members Vijay Kumar and Banu Mushtaq, which calls for the intervention of the governor to resolve the issue, he opined.
