Koppal, Jan 25: Frustrated by the fact that the officials were yet to pay compensation for his land that was acquired for Munirabad-Mahbubnagar railway works, a farmer from Siddapur village in the district sent his death note via WhatsApp to the cellphones of officials concerned before going missing on Sunday January 23.

The farmer in question has been identified as Sharanappa Madiwalar. His land measuring two acres in Siddapur had been acquired by railways five years back. The family of the farmer said that they had not received compensation from the department till now, and that the officials had totally neglected their frequent requests for disbursement of compensation. It is learnt that the farmer had frequented various offices in a bid to collect the compensation amount, but to no avail.

The farmer was devastated by the attitude of the officials of the railways and revenue departments. On January 20, he had written a hand-written death note before disappearing. On January 24, he forwarded photocopies of the said death note through WhatsApp to some officials and some of his friends. After sending this photocopy, he switched off his cellphone.

Sharanappa has pinpointed that engineer, Mansur Ali, and supervisor, Basavaraj, were responsible for his mental agony and death. This message has given rise to a sense of disgust towards the officials and sympathy wave for the farmer in the entire district. After this development, revenue,police, and other department officials made a beeline for Siddapur and searched for the missing farmer. Police sub-inspector, N R Ningappa, visited the family of the farmer and held consultation.

Some sources claimed that the police have gathered information that the missing farmer is currently staying at Koppal town.
