Bangalore Feb 12: In a sad and shocking incident, a senior officer of a public sector undertaking has taken his own life owing to financial crisis.
Veerendra Kumar (55), deputy general manager of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and his wife Usha (50) allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison and their bodies were found in a car parked near their residence here on Monday, Feb 11.
The couple were found dead in their car by a policeman on beat during patrol duty early morning on Tuesday February 12, informed sources here. According to preliminary police investigations it is understood that Kumar had run into severe financial losses.
Kumar is believed to have taken loans running into Rs 50 lac approximately, which he was was unable to pay off due to the financial crunch he was facing. Kumar also faced some cheque bouncing cases, police also informed.
Further the sources informed that Kumar is survived by two daughters, one of whom was settled abroad, while the other one is residing in the city and working for a city-based firm.
