Jharkhand celebrates Republic Day


Ranchi, Jan 26 (IANS): Jharkhand celebrated the 68th Republic Day with patriotic fervour on Thursday, with Governor Droupadi Murmu hoisting the tricolour at the Morabadi Ground here.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das also hoisted the Tricolour in Dumka district of Jharkhand.

Addressing the gathering, Murmu said several efforts have been made for the development of the state and steps taken to ensure an environment in the state free of fear and violence.

The government also has initiated steps, with positive results, to bring straying youths back into the mainstream of society.

Heavy security arrangements were made in Maoist-hit districts of the state to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations. The students participated in the celebrations in large numbers.

India's largest Tricolour, measuring 99X66 feet, was also hoisted at Pahari temple in Ranchi to mark the occasion.
