Washington, Jan 26 (IANS): US President Donald Trump has called the White House "a very beautiful" and "elegant" residence and has taken a liking for the phones in his new residence, the media reported on Wednesday.
"These are the most beautiful phones I've ever used in my life," Trump told the New York Times. "The world's most secure system. The words just explode in the air," he said referring to the phones in the White House.
Trump's aides said that he seemed apprehensive about the move to his new home, but the President has discovered there is a lot he likes, according to the report.
"There's something very special when you know that Abraham Lincoln slept there," said Trump in a telephonic interview to the New York Times on Tuesday. "The Lincoln Bedroom, you know, was his office, and the suite where I'm staying is actually where he slept."
Trump sleeps in White House's master bedroom. He wakes up before 6 a.m. to watch cable TV and looks through the morning newspapers. He signs executive orders in the Oval Office and has meetings in the West Wing.
His meetings now begin at 9 a.m., earlier than they used to. Trump ends his evenings by watching television. The White House kitchen has been stocked with the same types of snacks that Trump had on his private plane, including Lay's potato chips, according to the report.
In the interview, Trump demurred when asked about whether it was hard having his family away from him, and he pointed to Thursday, when his wife Melania and son Barron, who is finishing the school year in New York, are expected to return.
"They'll come down on weekends," Trump said. "She'll come down on Thursdays and stay."
Trump said he was enjoying himself so far, despite his visible displeasure with the coverage of his inauguration and the first performance of his press secretary Sean Spicer, reported the newspaper.
The new President, according to the Times, is in the meantime pondering his first break away from the White House, a potential trip to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Florida, possibly the weekend of February 3.
