Shiv Sena snaps alliance with BJP for Maharashtra civic polls

Mumbai, Jan 26 (IANS): Launching a fierce attack on old ally BJP, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday announced breaking of their 25-year-old alliance for the upcoming civic elections across Maharashtra.

"We shall not go around with a begging bowl. We have wasted 25 years in this alliance. But no more. Shiv Sena will contest all the civic body elections independently and will not have an alliance with them (BJP) henceforth," thundered Thackeray at a party workers' rally in suburban Goregaon in the evening.

The move came after a stinging speech in which he criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with which the party is in alliance in Maharashtra and the centre, and directly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP did not spare even Mahatma Gandhi and removed his pictures from the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) diaries and calendars for this year, he said, referring to the use of pictures of Modi instead.

"They (the BJP) are talking of Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh. But now, they must be prepared for 'He Ram' (annihilation) there," he said.

The move to sever the alliance was greeted with cheers and a thunderous applause, and party workers chanted to Thackeray's call for fighting the ensuing elections separately.

Attacking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his recent order banning all kinds of religious activities and poojas in all government offices and institutions, Thackeray demanded that it should be withdrawn.

"How can they unilaterally take such a decision? Did you take us into confidence? Was it discussed before the state cabinet or even with the leaders of opposition parties? The order must be withdrawn or we will make a bonfire of it," he said.

Referring to entry of persons with allegedly criminal background into the BJP fold, he said "even Shiv Sena could rope in some goons, but all (goondas) are headed towards BJP only."

Comparing BJP to a bull which has run amok, he said the time has come to tame it, he said before declaring the break-up of their political partnership.

"I have full confidence in my Shiv Sainiks... With their help, we shall fly the saffron flag in Maharashtra independently," he said.

Since past few days, talks between the two parties have been faltering with the BJP state unit making it clear that the party was "prepared to fight alone" if the alliance with Shiv Sena fails to materialise.

Reacting quickly to the development, Shiv Sainiks broke into impromptu celebrations in several parts of Mumbai and Thane and raised slogans supporting the move.

This is just a temporary snap to reclaim the lost ground in political fortune of Mumbai civic polls.

As Brahat Mumbi sounds Shiv sena doesn't want to lose the ample piece of share which parties funding depend.

It is biggest loss for party going alliance with BJP in the last Maharastra election. Late but surely Shiv Sena doesn't want that to repeat in Mumbai which has consolidated position.

Both will share the bed once the polls are over.

Even MM Joshi also wrong selection for award. Remember Modi govt will repent for this musadventure. Party will have insulting performance in Punjab, UP and in Mumbai civil poll.

The PM insulted Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi by removing his picture and replacing him. In another way, he is telling us all just forget Gandhi but remember Modi. The same way when Ram Temple is built he might say, " This temple is my [Modi's] dream, and now you all must say "Hey Modi" instead of "Hey Ram."

HAHA, the real story is other way round. BJP wants SS to get out themselves since long time. They don't want to do it themselves fearing some losses in Marati Manus Votes. BJP fought the State elections alone 2 years back and already shown SS who is the boss. When BJP was about to form Govt with NCP, these sainiks started to feel the heat down under and surrendered itself to BJP. Now with the hopes of some electoral success against BJP in Delhi and Bihar, these sainiks trying to act SMART again thinking same may happen in MH. Time to show them their place. Association with SS has only caused loss to BJP's image. Its better to kick them out and align with NCP. Politically, the blame can be put on SS. SS is no more Same SS without Bal Tackrey. If not for BAl Tackrey's Son, Raj Tackrey would have finished SS long back. Time for BJP to play some dirty politics in Maharashtra , use MNS to finish SS like how BJP did to congress nation wide and restrict SS to some Panchayat level party like congress.

Modi is not Pappu to come to MH to beg votes for some civic polls. Only dongis are taking civic polls and APMC polls seriously nowadays coz their level is limited to only those.

Uffff...frustration. We can understand. Learn to live wit it for a while as your dongi party wil not come to power for atleast another decade except some APMC no matter howmuchever noise you guys make . I left the country looking for a greener pasture thanks to the pethetic situation of my country due to your dongis corruption. More than looking forward to comedown now as I see the potential of starting my business is more brighter , easier and straight forward now thanks to Modi. That's the reality unlike your fools paradise 3 years back. Proud to be a bhaktha.

How much did your party score in Delhi ? ROFL.

Delhi and Bihar....both place BJP scored more than your Dongi Party. As of now RS numbers matter not, state rule. As much number as possible is the need of hour, not state power Your party is ganging up with others like a pack of foxes and taking one a single party which is our BJP , and we are very proud of it. Dare your party to fight alone in any state. If they dint join the alliance with SP in UP, they would have ended up in single number in another state.

Dare to fight BJP alone...then talk about Modi.

BTB, just waiting for tax reformation declaration this year. Will diffentily come back. I don't have to wait for any dongis permission.

It's not only Shiv Sena, even BJP's own members are distancing themselves from BJP. Wondering what BJP is going to do with claimed black money it collected in the name of Demonetisation from poor people and deposited in BJP account ?. Is it enough to join Lalit Modi or Vijaya Mallya?. Time is nearing to abscond!!!!!

Well so as per reports it's BJP which first prepared itself to fight alone. under MODI, BJP transformed itself to a young/development oriented party. Its shedding its communal tag even though opposition tries to paint it. There is no future for political parties which nothing to offer for younger generations. MNS lost badly, Owaisis faced dirt. Udhav is not Baltakre, that era gone when others stand outside Mathoshri.
