Mangaluru: Krishna's departure a huge loss; Siddaramaiah a curse: Janardhan Poojary

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK/SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 30: Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on Monday January 30, former union minister, Janardhan Poojary, bemoaned the fact that a veteran and versatile leader like former chief minister of Karnataka, S M Krishna, had quit Congress party.

Hailing Krishna as a proactive leader of the party who was not driven by any bias about anyone or anything, he termed him as a good human being and good leader who had mastery over his words. He felt that the Congress party was not justified in treating a leader of Krishna's stature and calibre shabbily. "I subscribe to the view that he was sidelined in the party because he has openly said so. During the press conference, there were times when he got emotional. His wife was there to witness the agony her husband was going through. His wife has been his greatest strength, and she has always stood by Krishna's side," he stated.

"We can understand by the way Krishna, who is always calm and composed, lost his composure, that he has been deeply hurt. We have to remember the contributions he made to the state, country, and the party. I strongly feel that his decision to quit the party was not right. I would have joined hands with Krishna in his fight against this evil," Poojary felt.

The veteran Congress leader came down heavily on Karnataka chief minister, Siddaramaiah, and minced no words in deriding him. He said that Siddaramaiah has been intoxicated by power, pride, and egotism and that he is a curse for the Congress. "Our party can hope to have a bright future in the state if he quits the party," he thundered. At the same time, Poojary urged senior leaders of the party like Jaffer Sharief and Prakash Hukkeri not to depart from Congress.

Poojary said that during her meeting with Krishna sometime back, Sonia Gandhi had asked Krishna not to quit the party. He felt that the senior leader took a hasty decision in leaving the party, without respecting the advice of the party's national president. He added that Sonia Gandhi had no other option left now but to accept the resignation reluctantly and thank Krishna for his long-standing contributions to the party. "I sincerely urge Krishna to desist from joining any other political party. I feel he will someday repent his decision, having realized that it was wrong on his part to quit the party. Sonia Gandhi will open the doors of the Congress for him again and give him an opportunity to carry on with his second innings," he felt.

Janardhan Poojary warned Krishna about the fact that opposition parties are eagerly awaiting a chance to finish his political career once and for all. "If you join the opposition parties, they will draw strength from you. But later, they will hatch a conspiracy to bring an end to your political career. Be wary of them," he advised.

I strongly see a risk of a similar eulogy being read out for Poojary as well soon. If not for the frequent press conference condemning ever-dosing Siddu, there is hardly any visibility for this veteran leader.

SMK was a great leader at his helm years but age caught up with him and probably the congress party also realized his advanced age (84 years old) after the mix-up when he went on to read Portuguese minister's speech at the UN General assembly in 2011. Regardless, he was the best CM of Karnataka.

Let us not mistake age factor though. Amit Shah still thinks that ND Tiwari is well before the best-before date and has joined BJP.

SM Krishna is a great leader and I am sure he will reconsider his decision. Siddu will defeat congress if he is not warned. Poojary is doing right thing by pulling him irrespective he listens or no.

Since when he became Krishna's advisor? SG/RG treated him shabbily & he resigned. He got positions in party for his contribution & therefore he's not a bonded labourer! He should have been given respect & treated with dignity, which is all he expected!

Poojary, Krishna, Jaffar no more winning the elections. Times have changed. They should retire from active politics like senior BJP leaders. Siddu is the best at the moment and he knows how to handle the opposition party. What is the use of senior leaders if they don't win the elections. Not a big loss for congress by Krishna's exit.

In fact I suggest you also join his bandwagon. At the age of 84 what post he & you are expecting? Yes you people were run the 1000 meter rely but the baton should be passed over to the next runner at certain line, you alone can't take it to the finishing point!!!!! You OLDIES will never change your old mentality. Let today's youth roam around without JOB, and you OLDIES enjoy the Power.

Please ask these veteran (above the age of 60) leaders to retire from politics gracefully and pave way to the new generation leader by support them, sharing experience and guiding). These leaders already enjoyed the power and benefits the Congress provided during its helm, these leaders became someone from no one because of Congress Party. Learn from Advnaji, even though the party sidelined him but he never uttered a single word against BJP leadership and kept silent. SM Krishna is greedy and over ambitious politician to resign is this age. He still need power. I had respect for him but seeing his current political statement am ashamed of him. He is the one enjoyed more and more power and facilities in Congress (being CM, Foreign minister, Governor etc.) still he want power in this ages oufffff shame on him).
These old leaders are not alowing Congress to move forward and do something good to the people. they only need the power to enjoy these age.

SMK may be trying to push his candidature of DK Shivakumar for the CM post. DKS was his right hand man during SMK rule. Also with the raids taking place on the non - BJP members by the CBI SMK may be worried about his Son-in-law getting caught on the wrong foot. So he may be trying for a safer option. Anyway it his age it is time to take retirement from active politics

SM krishna has quit congress just for his self respect and personal ego reasons which no political party can guarrenty to maintain life long. when new generation ideas comes out the previous must allow them to get implemented thats gentlemenship. Krishna never be a mass leader but siutable only for governor or foreign minister post which he already got before by congress. when sm krishna was chief minister in karnataka the sangh parivar was so energetic and grown well where smk just ignored even in riot incidents by just saying LAW WILL TAKE ITS OWN COURSE. Comparingly siddaramayya is much better leader who can voice against any anti social forces for public causes even ignoring the personal ego n self respect. THATS WHY SIDDARAMAYYA IS A MASS LEADER .

krishna is very much an overrated politician. Much of the overrating has been achieved through self promos. His record as an administrator is very poor. The Congress party made him Chief Minister. His administrative record was so poor that he managed to lose the state in the elections. The Congress party appointed him as governor of Maharashtra. The Congress party made him a Rajya Sabha member of Parliament and then appointed him as India's foreign minister. His performance in that capacity was a disaster. In one case, in a speech made in the general assembly of the United Nations he was reading from an entirely wrong paper and had to be patted on the back by his staff to make him read from the right document. It is not just a case of mild cognitive impairment. He is 84 years old and his cognitive powers have declined. The only thing that has not declined is his greed.
