Mangalore, Feb 16: Majority of the local newspapers in the state are engaged in the task of depicting Muslims as terrorists. As a result Muslims are suffering humiliation everywhere, said well-known thinker Rajshekhar.

Addressing the protest meet organized near DC’s office here on Friday, February 15 to oppose the atrocities of police at Ullal during communal clashes he said that the coastal of part of the state is lacking in basic human values and minorities here have become the victims, he opined.

No one will raise a voice when a terrorist is punished in India, but depicting all the Muslims as terrorists is not acceptable. Even the media are directly involved in propagating this myth, he accused.

It is sad that, an extremist element like Nagaraj Shetty enjoyed power in the state while the influence of Sangh Parivar has been increasing day by day in entire country. That is why the minorities, dalits and backward people are suffering humiliations, he asserted.

Speaking on the occasion, Peoples’ Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) district president P B D’Sa took Ullal inspector Jayanth Shetty to task and alleged that when Ramanath Rai was the minister, Jayanth Shetty was loyal to him but later he shifted his loyalty when Nagaraj Shetty became minister.

Well-known thinker Pattabhirama Somayaji, Hameed Kandak, Suleman and others spoke on the occasion. Thousands of Muslims residing in and around Ullal participated in the protest. Shops in places like Kotepur, Mukkacheri, Kodi, Mastikatte, Melangadi and Tokkottu Junction remained closed as the shop owners rushed to the city to participate in the protest.

In this competetive world the media can be no exception and even a small news gets hyped. No body should be perturbed about it. In the meanwhile the so called spitting venom on each other by some organisations is also not proper. The general public are intelligent and competent enough to see the truth and as such we dont need " Thinkers" or media to think on our behalf.

Two more things in the news are amusing. That one former minister is dubbed as extremist - then what prevented anyone from taking legal course against him or hold rallies as the present one to make the public " Think".

Secondly another comment about changing of loyalties by a police officer is cited . What is wrong?- whether he was expected to stick to his old loyalties or having loyalties itself was bad. If it is the latter one it is a good idea. With elections round the corner many conventions, conferences ,meetings gatherings etc. etc. are expected to maintain the divide.

We should support only those who have an economic agenda for the common man. Religion can be handled ourselves and we dont need any parties or Government to interfere in it.

The media is engaged in brandising the muslims as terrorists. When a Hindu becomes a anti social, he is called as naxalite. When a muslim becomes a anti social, he is called as terrorist. Same work, but two different labels. Wah what a double standard. Where is press eithics?

The neoconservative thinkers work painting Islam as anti-modernist, opposed to freedom, and inimical to the rights of women and minorities. In other words, Muslims were the last remaining obstacle to get the power in India for the fundamentalist. They work openly, covertly and by deceit. On the ideological front, their goal is to define all Muslims as terrorist. This goal appears to be nearly in sight. They have persuaded many Indians, that all terrorists are Muslims even if all Muslims are not terrorists.

The charge that all terrorists are Muslims is a scarcely concealed advocacy for war against all Muslims. It does not matter that this equation is false. It is a great work of peace lovers in Mangalore, protesting against such media which banner Muslims as terrorists and anti-nationals. "The only good Muslims are most Muslims… The overwhelming majority of Muslims are peace-loving, hospitable people."
