Mangaluru: Kudla Express to Bengaluru via Shravanabelagola, a reality soon

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP/RJP)

Mangaluru, Feb 5: The day train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru via Mysuru announced by the then Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, named as Kudla Express, is now likely to be operated via Shravanabelagola by end of March.

At a time when hopes of reaching Bengaluru faster through Shravanabelagola are brightening, a new platform has been announced in the union budget for the central railway station here.

If both these things materialize, it would mean meeting of longstanding demands of coastal Karnataka people.

As per the timetable published in 2014, the yet-to-be introduced Train No. 16575 was to leave Bengaluru at 8.30 a.m. to reach Mangaluru Central at 9.15 p.m. and Train No. 16576 to leave Mangaluru Central at 6.30 a.m. to reach Bengaluru at 7.30 p.m. via Mysuru.

However, the re-routing of the train is subject to several conditions. The first being authorisation by the Commissioner of Railway Safety to operate passenger trains on the newly constructed Nelamangala-Shravanabelagola line. The second being availability of coaches to form the rake for the train and the third is concurrence by the Railway Board to change the route.

The central government has planned to build new platform and also to undertake tracks doubling work from Nethravati cabin to the central station simultaneously. At present, the central station has four platforms through which over 30 trains are being operated every day. So far, the department was pointing out at lack of platforms for initiating additional trains.

R L Dias, president of the Railway Yatri Sangha, Udupi, who has filed a public interest writ petition before the High Court of Karnataka, seeking a direction to South Western Railway to run the train as announced in the budget, said that the zone has told the court that it would start the new service by March 1. Since its route and timetable have been published, South Western Railway cannot change it on its own and would initially have to run the train via Mysuru itself. Thereafter, the board’s concurrence has to be taken to re-route it, he said.

Currently, there has been lacklustre response for trains which pass through the Kankanady (junction) station without touching the central station. Railway passengers forums have been demanding to extend all these trains to the central station that is located in the hub of the city in order to attract more passengers. They have been demanding to extend CST(Mumbai)-Mangalore Junction train to central station, and also extend the Kannur-Mangalore Junction-Byndoor passenger train that has been running under loss, till the central station and also to change the destination to Margao in order to enable more passengers to make use of the train.

South Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer E Vijaya told the media that the South Western Railway was planning to run the train via Shravanabelagola. Since the zone is facing shortage of coaches to form a rake, the process may take some time; but by March-end the train should run, she said.

In the meanwhile, the 42 km Nelamangala-Shravanabelagola track has been completed, and the Railway Safety Commissioner will inspect this track for safety of running passenger trains between February 6 to 10, it is gathered.

Vijaya also concurred and said that South Western Railway would have to solicit opinion from beneficiaries of the train. Since Mangaluru comes under Southern Railway and change in timings is involved, that zone’s concurrence too is required, she said.

The move would drastically reduce the distance and time taken for the journey, from 447 km to 340 km and from 13 hours to 8-9 hours.

    Hi
    Suggestions:
16517/18- Bangalore- Kannur- Run via tumkur arsikere to mangalore. Give 730pm time from Bangalore and kannur same time at present. I mean old timing when this train was introduced via mysore before karwar extension. It should reach yeswanthpur by 730am as comfortable for office going public.
16523/16524- Bangalore-Karwar -Run via mysore ie present route.
At present both karwar and kannur run combined train when court has told to separate and run .
16575- Kudla Express- Extend till Mangalore central -Tri weekly- extend till Kundapura after mangalore central extension.
16566/Mangaluru Central - Yesvantpur- Make till karwar .From yeswanthpur start on Friday , monday and wednesday .From Karwar start at Sunday , tuesday and thursday .Reroute via kunigal-hassan-Sharvanbegola . Start from yeswanthpur around 10pm and from karwar around 4pm. MAke it superfast train . should reach yeswanthpur by 630am.
16515-16 - same route as present. Make travel time less .Reachs yewanthpur very late... Start from mangalore junction at 1030am to reach yeswanthpur by 830pm which is possible .
This can only happen if bus lobby allow ie kudla-udupi -kundapur lobby.Malayali samrajya can be seen later ... lets put our house in coastal belt in order ...lets not live in glass house and throw stone on others. We can say kannada samarjya from mysore- tumkur-bangalore looting coastal and crib about it.
We can make Mangalore as division for konkan railways.. extend it till kasargod and include central station also maybe bantwala till subramanya road too .At present we have four platforms in central and 4th not used much ,y so .? One more is sanctioned it seems.Let 4th and 5th platforms be used for only bangalore bound train. some chennai train can start from ullala also...... but being small city 4 to 5 platforms are enough.......Hopefully mafia of coast does not call and harass me....hehhehee

This Kudla express will be utter waste of it s materialised according to given time table, Extra night train is needed in this route like hot cakes. But, that will have impact on Pvt bus run between these destination. This Sadananda Gowda might collected good junk of pocket money from bus owner to introduce day train and that going deny night train. As per bond between govt n contractor of Guage conversation in Ghat section will allow only 3 passenger train. Earlier they tried to introduce day passenger to Shravanabelsgola in order to deny night train, it was failed technical reasons.
During inauguration of Hassan Bangalore new train Mr. Gowda was absent because of non induction of Kudla express. Unfortunately
Present running day train should be introduced as a daily train and inducted in new route between Nelamangala and Hassan. So it may ease the crowd and will be useful to commuter s.
It s all about play of money under shadow. Coastal belt people doesn't have time to consider these discrimination with us.
Our rail Yatrhee Sangh also strongly propose for Kudla express, don't know why they recommend this one. it is most unfortunate part of it. They are the people bring some justice to people of coastal belt from hands of Mallu samrajya of Southern railways.

Many thanks to Mr. Dias once again.

I strongly feel DW should initiate a fund raiser for Mr.Dias for his years of effort for the benefit of railway passengers of Coastal region.

    I would surely contribute.

    Jai Hind !

Any train with travel time over 12 hours from Mangalore to Bangalore will not be successful. the Buses will keep competing with them because of shorter time.
Think of a travel time of 8 to 9 hours and anyone will support this.

I cannot understand the logic behind running one more 'morning train' between Mangalore and Bangalore, when 16516/Karwar - Yesvantpur Express already running via Hassan-Arsikere. What we really need is Mangalore to Bangalore 'extra night train' via Arsikere as other train travels via Mysore and consumes lot of time.
There is also one more useless weekly train 16566/Mangaluru Central - Yesvantpur Express, which travels via Calicut-Coimbatore to Bangalore, which takes 17 hrs 30 min to reach the destination. Why it should be allowed to start from Mangalore Central? Why cannot it be pushed to Mangalore junction or even Ullal, if not Kasargod??
There are plenty of South bound train moving towards Kerala and Tamil Nadu from Mangalore central, which uses most of the existing platforms. Why cannot half of these trains be shifted to Mangalore Junction or Ullal, such that other trains will get better chance at Mangalore central?
Since there is no separate Mangalore division we are bound to obey dicktats' of some 'lungi men'! That is the sad part.

Good news to coastal region people who commute between Mangalore - Bangalore. Just a suggestion on timings which will be useful for travelers.
Departure from M'lore around 9PM/10PM and reach B'lore around 5AM/6AM & vice-versa would be more convenient.
The train 16566/Mangaluru Central - Yesvantpur Express is useless for Mangaloreans.

    People,

Bus lobby 'Dalaal' from Moodabidri is preparing to fill the suitcase and take it to his 'Vidhwaan' Guru to stop the train or chain the timing so nobody would like to travel in the train....

This is happening for long time...keep an eye on Dalaal and Vidhwaan for their moves...their move is like trail of fish in water...very difficult to trace...See Gas scam,,, does not move neither in UPA nor in NDA regime...when Kejriwal takes over as PM and pursue this in 2019,,, Vidhwaan will be 85.....too old to go to prison!!!...

Some good news in public interest amidst so many unnecessary matters and dirty politics!
Hope the Kudla Express shall run as scheduled by end of March,2017
If Train No. 16575 scheduled to leave Bengaluru at 8.30 a.m. if RESCHEDULED to reach Mangaluru Central at 7.15 PM INSTEAD of 9.15 p.m as scheduled now would be far better.
Change of timings are desired for there is no night life and safe transportation in Mangaluru, specially in remote villages.
Passengers reaching Mangaluru at 9.15, 9.30 pm, will be struck in the station till next day morning!
