Udupi, Feb 6: Anganwadi workers and assistant workers staged a protest near Taluk office, Bannanje on Monday, February 6 against the Central government who did not allot funds for them in the Union Budget, and also against the state government.

Sheela K Shetty, president, Mahila Okkoota said, " The Anganwadi employees are waiting outside the Tahsildar office at Bannanje to meet Tahsildar since morning. But no official has come here to hear their problem. Surprisingly, the receptionist says that an appointment is needed to meet him.The state government has implemented many schemes and programmes for development, but no specific scheme is allotted for Anganwadi employees. They are deprived of all government benefits."

"From the morning till noon, the workers have to take care all children and look after their likes and dislikes. In the midst of their duty, 30 record books should be maintained. The workers are getting paid just Rs 6000 per month for their service," said Sheela Shetty.

"All Anganwadi workers and assistants should unite to fight for their demands. They should be paid at least Rs 10,400 per month, as  announced by the state. "

The members of the Sangha put forth a few demands to fulfil on a priority basis which includes a minimum salary of Rs 18,000 to be released immediately, Rs 3000 monthly pension, and provision of government benefits like ESIPF gratuities.  The monthly allowance is to be provided for ill staff along with holiday. They also demand to provide an additional allowance to senior staff," Sheela added.

Leela, president, Shashikala, vice president, Jayanti, secretary, Shakuntala, joint secretary, Geetha treasures and others were present.
