Bengaluru, Feb 6: State law minister T B Jayachandra on Monday February 6, said that Kambala Bill will be tabled in the Assembly within two days. The state Assembly is in session this week starting from Monday.

Speaking to media, law minister said that Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA) will be amended and Kambala and bullock cart race will be included as traditional sports.

The Bill proposes to pave way for Kambala, a traditional buffalo race that is held in coastal districts of the state for centuries.

Presently as there is a stay on Kambala by the High Court and hence the traditional sports cannot be held.

When Kambala issue was reaching nowhere, ordinance by Tamil Nadu government on their bull taming sports called Jallikattu gave an inspiration to the state to follow Tamil Nadu. After that the government is under pressure to table the Kambala Bill.

Huge protests were held recently in the coastal districts mainly in Mangaluru and Moodbidri demanding legal status for the traditional sports.
