Mangalore, Feb 18: A district level 'Congress Backward Class' convention was organized by the Congress party here at Thokottu near Ullal on Sunday February 17.
Addressing the delegates M Veerappa Moily, chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission reiterated the party's objectives. According to him the Congress party was always in favour of the backward class, and hence making an ardent appeal he said "There is an urgent need to unite these backward classes at the national-level.” Moily affirmed that Congress is the only party which has the ability and will power to protect the interests of the backward classes.
Criticizing the opposition he said "Those political parties which are against poor are opposing the pro-people schemes implemented by the Union government.”
On the occasion former union minister K C Lenka released a handbook on various schemes for the backward class.
Coming down hard on the BJP-JD(S) combine in the State, he thundered that it has looted the State. "People are tired of father-son politics. Though government has passed 27 per cent reservation for backward class in education, some political parties opposed it and now the issue is in the court,” he pointed out.
Lambasting the BJP further, he said that it was not in favour of development. “They crave for power. They are involved in instigating youth to resort to violence,” he fumed.
Also on the occasion senior freedom fighters Ammembala Balappa, K K Ucchil and M Sheikh Mohammed were felicitated by the former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah.
