Washington, Feb 11 (IANS): US President Donald Trump on Friday lauded the "very, very good conversation" he had with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday night.
"I had a very, very good conversation ... yesterday with the president of China. It was a very, very warm conversation," Xinhua quoted Trump as saying at a joint news conference with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the White House.
Trump said that he and President Xi discussed "a lot of subjects" during the long phone talk, the first since his inauguration on January 20.
Trump said China and the US are "on the process of getting along very well," which he said will also be very much beneficial to every country in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan.
The US is currently holding talks with various representatives of China on the issues concerned, he added.
The White House said on Thursday night that Trump and Xi held an "extremely cordial" phone talk, during which they both extended best wishes to the people of each other's countries.
They also extended invitations to meet in their respective countries as the two sides will engage in discussions and negotiations on various issues of mutual interest.
Most importantly, Trump agreed to honour the one-China policy, the political foundation of the China-US ties in the past decades, which only recognises Beijing as the sole legal representative of China.
