Bantwal: Fire in cashew plantations causes loss worth several lacs

Bantwal, Feb 14: Several lacs worth cashew nut saplings were gutted in the fire at cashew plantations at Anilakatte, Vittal casba village on Monday, February 13.

Electric short circuit is said to be the cause. The plantations are owned by Dr Suresh Kudooru, resident of the village. Though locals rushed and tried to extinguish the fire, most of the saplings were burnt.

Bantwal fire brigade put off the fire and prevented it from spreading. Suresh Kudooru had planted 250 unique saplings in three and a half acres of land. Nearly 15 years old 150 saplings were gutted. Some other trees were also destroyed in the fire.
