Kalaburagi, Feb 14: Relating to the incident in which an attempt on the life of the tahsildar was made, the driver of the tractor, who is the accused in the case, stands arrested. The tahsildar was making efforts to rein in illegal sand trade that has been proliferating in the taluk, when the incident happened.

The driver was arrested on Monday February 13. Tahsildar, Shashikala Padagatti, on receiving information that sand was being illegally transported on Ghattaragi road, went to Teggalli village on Sunday. When she checked the load of a tractor and tried to confiscate the vehicle, driver of the tractor, identified as Sharanappa Arakera, had tried to knock the car in which the tahsildar was seated, down, with the stated objective of eliminating her, with the tractor. Shashikala escaped the attempt by a whisker.

On the basis of a complaint filed by her in Afzalpur police station, the police had registered a case and begun investigation.
