Udupi, Feb 14: The unique tulu film 'Suggi', has brought laurels to Coastalwood, with the best debut director award at Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Kolkatta. The film directed by Dr S Raj Kamal with a tag-line of 'Moke' portrays the rural life to the outside world.
Besides sensitive subjects such as moral killing, religion, caste in the lives of rural people, the director has attempted to portray Ayurveda treatment methods, love, forgiveness among peple from the recluse community. Director Dr Rajkamal, Bhoomika, Rakshitha Poojary, Leeladhar Shetty and others are in lead roles. Artistes from Mangaluru and Udupi have acted in it. As artistes knew Tulu, dubbing has not been a problem. H K Manjunath's cinematography and Harish Ganiga's compilation are part of the film.
Dr Kamal hails from Udupi Kaup and is a doctor by profession. Though he resides in Bengaluru, he has produced a film in Tulu due to the love for his home town. He joined hands with A B Shah and V Krishnamoorthi to produce the film under the K K Combine's banner. Dr Kamal is a member of Karnataka Film Producer's Association. He has got experience of acting and working in technical aspects in Kannada films too. He read 15 books concerning direction and after sufficient preparations became a director.
The movie is inspired by a story picked from the 'Dozen cinema' book. The shooting started in March, 2016 and ended in 20 days. The quick shoot was done in Udupi, Udyavara, Malpe and surrounding places. The post production work was complete in October.
Suggi film received a U-certificate and is ready for release this March or April, the director said, confident of the film with a social message, pleasing to the audience.
