Panaji, Feb 16 (IANS): After questioning the sanctity of the strong rooms in which EVMs were stored in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party in Goa appears to be in no mood to take any chances in the coastal state.
Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters in Panaji on Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Ashley do Rosario said a relay team of volunteers had been put in place to keep a 24x7 vigil on the two locations in the coastal state, following the February 4 polls.
Asked if the AAP in Goa was apprehensive about the security of the machines, in which lies recorded the fate of 251 candidates who contested the state assembly elections, Rosario said: "We apprehend and we have designated a number of volunteer to conduct a 24x7 vigil in the system that is provided by the Election Commission. So our volunteers are taking rounds going to both places in North Goa and South Goa".
EVMs used in the polling exercise in North Goa district have been kept at Campal, near Panaji and those utilised in south Goa district are stored at Borda in Margao town, located 35 kms from Panaji.
Over 2,500 EVMs were used to conduct the February 4 polls in Goa, which saw nearly 83 per cent of the electorate exercise their franchise.
AAP has contested in 39 out of the 40 assembly constituencies in the state.
