Mangalore, Feb 23:
A day of joy and merry-making descended upon the senior citizens of the 'Vishwas Trust,' a day-care centre for the elderly rencently with the annual picnic for the elderly.  Vishwas is a trust with a motto for community service and domiciliary support for the elderly.

On the 'D' day, all the members boarded the bus at Valencia Church arranged by the Karavali group of colleges at 7.30 am. They then proceeded to Mukka church, the destination of the day.

The day out was packed with fun and frolic. On reaching Mukka church the fun-loving carefree bunch of seniors had a healthy breakfast, which was followed by a variety of games conducted by the able staff and the MSW students.

All the members participated with zest and enthusiasm. It obviously proved to be a refreshing change for them from their lonely retired existence. In the noon, the members had a sumptuous meal, which was followed by a photo session. The icing on the cake finally was the fun and entertainment programme for them at Panumbur beach.

The day came to a happy close at around 5.30 pm. It was indeed a sight to behold, as every member's face beamed with joy and sheer happiness. The picnic truly proved to be a break for them from the routine and boredom which is such a characteristic feature of the lives of our senior citizens.

Now with this enjoyable event behind them they are eagerly looking forward to the next day out in 2009.
