Women voters take slender lead over men in ten civic bodies


Mumbai, Feb 23 (Zee News): Women voters have outperformed men in yesterday's elections to BMC and nine other municipal corporations, though by a whisker, registering a 28.33% turnout against 28.19% by their male counterparts.

As per the final data compiled by the State Election Commission, as many as 25,70,410 women voters out of total 90,71,691 women electorate across 10 civic bodies, including BMC, exercised their franchise, which turned out to be 28.33%.

On the other hand, 29,50,038 men voters cast their votes as against 1,04,64,763 registered voters, which is 28.19%.

However, despite their higher percentage, no municipal corporation had more number of women voters which was not the case in rural areas.

Ratnagiri district with 5,62,400 women voters was the unique region where the number of men voters was lower than their women counterparts.

As per the data released by the SEC, Ratnagiri district has 5,09,409 registered men voters.

The district not only has less number of men than women voters, but the turnout also showed a similar trend.

As many as 3,18,069 men voters cast their vote against 3,64,174 women voters.

In rural areas, total men voters' turnout was 70.80% while that of women voters was 68.51%.
